The Historic Atlantic Hotel In Berlin, MD

If you're like most who visit Maryland's Eastern Shore, then you probably stay somewhere along its shores, whether it be bay side (St. Michaels, Crisfield, Smith Island) or ocean side (Ocean City, Assategue).

But did you know, that nestled just 10 miles west of Ocean City is the historic town of Berlin? If you were driving to Ocean City, you most likely drove right past it and didn't know it. 

 All it takes is a stroll down main street to see that Berlin is rich in history. 

At the corner of Main Street and Jefferson Street, you'll find the historic Atlantic Hotel. If Berlin were a beautiful, antique ring, then the Atlantic Hotel would be its center gem.

Built in 1895, this three-story, Victorian hotel was restored in 2009 with all accommodations featuring authentic antique furniture, accessories, beautiful hand-ironed 100% cotton bedding with feather bed toppers, luxury bathroom amenities and terry toweling, spa style robes and a touch of modernity with flat screen TVs in every room. The hotel was also used in the filming of Runaway Bride with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere.

The Atlantic Hotel offers 18 Victorian Period Guest DeLuxe and Standard Rooms, Junior Suites and a full Suite, plus a Gardner's Cottage for Honeymooners and for Special Event Stays.

When you enter the hotel's front entrance, you'll find the hotel office on your left and the famous Drummer's Café to your right. The restaurant seats up to 80 people indoors with additional outdoor seating for up to 30 on a screened-in porch and on the Atlantic Lawn. The restaurant features casual lite fare dining from 11 am to closing and fine dining from 5 pm to closing.

 My husband and I ate dinner at the hotel and the food was delectable! 

My husband ordered a chicken fettuccine dish and I had the special of the night, which was crusted cod, topped with jumbo lump crab meat over cheese ravioli. The portions were pleasantly large and everything was delicious.

 The hotel also features a Ballroom which is available year round for Luncheons, Dinners, Receptions and Fundraisers seating up to 80 people or up to 125 for Cocktail Receptions.

We stayed on a Friday night and they were getting the ballroom ready for a wedding reception that was scheduled for Saturday.

We received our room key to "The Blue Room" #14, which is an Elegant, Queen, DeLuxe Corner room that overlooks the Historic District and Main Street of the Village of Berlin.

Our room featured a gorgeous, mahogany, antique headboard that crowned a beautiful Queen size bed adorned with a feather bed topper. To the right of the bed sat a matching marble top dresser with antique accessories.

 The full bath was beautiful with its antique claw-footed tub with shower, small hand bowl and Gilchrist & Soames bathroom amenities. Hung on the back of the door were two luxurious, white spa robes to help us feel even more relaxed.

One of my favorite parts of the hotel were the hallways with their beautiful antique furnishings and photos. 

 And at the center of the hotel, on the first floor of guest rooms, is the Ladies' Parlor.

This is where Victorian women would go to sit and converse while the men were downstairs at the bar. The French doors open to a small balcony that overlooks Main Street below. 

 Hung on the hotel walls are portraits of Eastern Shore families during the Victorian era that really give the hotel an authentic, Victorian feel, as well as showcase local history.
Walking up and down the halls, I could picture myself in a fancy, Victorian dress (an era I'm so in love with).

 This is The Richard Gere Room, #20. The same room used in the late 90's film, "Runaway Bride."

This is The Elizabeth room, #12. Such a pretty room.

These are just a few of the gorgeous rooms available at the Atlantic Hotel.
They even have a charming Gardner's Cottage on Jefferson Street, just behind the hotel.
A great place for a private, romantic getaway.
